Family, Friends, The Island of Martha’s Vineyard, and the world of Blues Music are all mourning the passing of one of their favorites. Maynard Silva, whose valiant battle with several types of cancer over the past several years has been an inspiration to so many, passed away peacefully early Wednesday at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Maynard was 57.

As a performing bluesman, Maynard’s signature growl and emotive guitar work had been gracing stages – on and off the Vineyard – for close to 40 years. He’d played with such luminaries as Bukka White, J.B. Hutto, Buddy Guy, Rick Danko & Bo Diddley. Maynard also mentored many an up and coming musicians, blues or not.

Maynard was also a successful painter. His work can be seen on many of the island business signs and commercial vehicles.

But his greatest joys in life were his son, Milo, and his loving wife, Basia (both of whom were at his side at the time of his passing).

We here at mvyradio, loved it when Maynard shared the msuic with us. Here are a few moments from the mvyradio archives, featuring Mayard, his work and his wit.
