mvyradio Narrows Festival 2009

The 8th Annual Narrows Center For The Arts Festival is set for this Sunday, September 13th at The Narrows Center in Fall River.  It's a FREE event for the whole family with Fine Art, Fine Music and Fine Food!  Come and join the mvyradio On the Road crew from 11 AM to 7 PM as we  record and stream live all day long on mvyradio.com!  You'll hear performances by Dirty Dozen Brass Band, BeauSoleil Avec Michael Doucet, Hot Club Of Cowtown and Seth Walker from the Main Stage, and Miss Tess and the Bon Ton Parade, Ryan Fitzsimmons, Danielle Miraglia and Marc Douglas Berardo from the Narrows Stage.  The Narrows Festival has emerged as one of the premiere music and arts festivals in New England, with a venue situated on Fall River's historic waterfront.  It will be a great day of the arts in a beautiful setting!

Jess - 6:00

The festival is ending with HOT HORNS both inside and out. Miss Tess and the Bon Ton Parade drew a large crowd inside the Narrows. They're just about finished with their set of nostalgic jazz tunes. The Dirty Dozen Brass band is just getting started outside, and man can they blow! These amazing horn players from Louisiana are ending off the day with some funky grooves that have everyone on their feet.

Wow, Ryan Fitzsimmons just blew me away with his set inside the Narrows. It's wonderful to see a performer who really puts all of his energy into his playing. His sound is hard to nail down, but it's sort of a mix of Americana and rock. The space in front of the main stage outside is PACKED with dancing feet! BeauSolieil avec Michael Doucet are playing some great cajun and zydeco music that's got everyone moving. Arts & crafts are wrapping up in the kids area, and families are turning their attention to some dance exhibitions. What a fun day it's been!

Well the weather has certainly cooperated today...it feels like summer here, with the sun shining and some gorgeous clouds in the sky. I was excited to see Seth Walker perform on the main stage, and he didn't disappoint! What a rippin' guitar player! Joined by drums and stand-up bass, Seth really got us rockin'. Inside, Cambridge-based singer/songwriter Danielle Miraglia is wrapping up her set. Her sultry voice and bluesy guitar-playing seemed to be pulling a lot of folks in. The crowd has multiplied and the streets are bustling with friends and families taking in the gorgeous day and wonderful music.

Jess - 12:00pm

Well it was a cloudy, dreary morning, but it has started to clear up here in Fall River...just in time for the opening acts of the Narrows Festival. People of all ages are making their way to this free event, milling around and taking in the sights. The streets are closed and lined with vendors, selling beautiful jewelry, clothes and art. The western swing trio, Hot Club Of Cowtown just took the main stage outside, and got a few people up and dancing right away. Marc Douglas Berardo is finishing up his set inside the Narrows, to a handful of early-comers. It sure is a family-friendly atmosphere, with a entire area dedicated to arts & crafts and children's music from a great group called Flooky and the Beans! The clouds are giving way to what seems to be a beautiful day at the Narrows.
